EMOTIONAL REGULATION

Why emotions feel so big

Emotions are information — not the problem.

Big emotions are not a sign of weakness or bad behaviour — they are signals from the nervous system. When we feel safe, emotions move through us. When we feel threatened, they become louder, faster and harder to regulate.

Understanding emotions starts by asking what an emotion is trying to tell us — not how to make it stop.

Curiosity changes everything.

The heart of it

A few ideas that make this easier to understand.

Signals, not flaws

Emotions are messages from the nervous system.

Safety changes everything

Safe: emotions flow. Threatened: they flood.

Ask what, not how-to-stop
