We learn regulation through relationships.

Children aren't born knowing how to regulate emotions. They learn through thousands of moments of being soothed, understood and supported by another person. Before we can expect self-regulation, we need co-regulation.

Calm cannot be demanded — it is experienced. Safety is contagious. So is stress. The nervous system constantly responds to the people around us.
