What words sometimes can't say.
All behaviour has meaning. When a child 'won't', it usually means they 'can't — yet'. Behaviour is a signal about an unmet need, an overwhelmed nervous system, or a message words couldn't carry. When we get curious instead of cross, we can actually help.
Curiosity changes everything.
Curiosity before judgment
Behaviour is the tip of the iceberg. Underneath sit stress, sensory load, communication and unmet needs.
A signal, not a problem
Behaviour points to a need — it isn't the need itself.
Won't = can't yet
Capacity, not willpower, is usually what is missing.
Regulation first
A dysregulated nervous system can't learn or cooperate.
Connection helps
Safety and relationship calm behaviour faster than consequences.
